Language Is Integral To Our Culture

Every culture is intrinsically connected to their language, from everyday conversation to the names of sacred items. Indigenous languages, for the most part, are passed on orally – only in “modern” history have we been writing them down to further our teachings – and, sadly, because many of our First Speakers (those for whom their Indigenous language is their first language), have walked on.

As part of our ongoing language/culture preservation, we are working on a comprehensive, written vocabulary, of our language – while sharing and practising vocally.

The “Canneci Tinné Ki Yati, (Canneci Tinné Apache Dictionary)” has been awarded a $4500 FY25 Louisiana Project Grant! The activity period for this award is October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025, and our language classes will start in October.

We are very grateful to the Louisiana Office of Cultural Development, the Acadiana Center of The Arts, and the National Endowment For The Arts for helping us to preserve and further our Indigenous language!
